Count Jokula Slot Review – Play’n Go

The spooky season of Halloween if officially over and the countdown for Christmas has already started. However, I am still catching up with all studios Halloween release for 2022. Studio Play’n Go left it rather close with only 4 days between the release and celebration. The last game I reviewed by the provider was the game titled ‘Boat Bonanza‘, which takes us on a fishing adventure and has a max win capped at 5,000x on offer. Today we are going Trick Or Treating with the release of ‘Count Jokula’, which is available to play now!

Play’n Go’s Halloween adventure this year is the studios quirky take on the story of Dracula. I am sure most of you will think of one of the many Dracula movies, instead of the original novel by Bram Stoker published in 1897. There is a long list of books and movies which have been published based on this original story. With the most recent release of the Hotel Transylvania movie series, which is aimed at kids, compared to all the scary movies we watch every Halloween.

The game background is purple with a simplistic design, an animation will play on loop which lights up this pattern and reveals more of the pattern detail. Animations are also seen on premium symbols, including skulls appearing on Cherries, eyeballs on Grapes and blood dripping from Chalices as some examples. Animations are hard to not look at, with a unique one for each symbol and when you start spinning & triggering features more appear. Visuals represent the theme well with vibrant quirky symbols and spooky animations, there is the perfect balance.

Count Jokula has a setup of 3 reels by 3 rows, this includes 5 set paylines. This slot is high variance with a set RTP of 96.22% and a max win capped at 8,350x. You can bet from £0.05 to £100.

There are 8 symbols in total, this includes 4 low paying symbols. These are represented by Cherries, Lemons, Grapes and Plums. There are also 3 premium symbols, these are represented by Chalices Of Blood, Daggers and Bats. In addition to these regular symbols is a Joker Wild, which substitutes for all paying symbols. The highest paying symbol is the Wild, which pays 10x for 3 across a pay line.

Count Jokula Features

The Joker Wild hides in the shadows, appearing on any non-winning spin to form a winning combination for the ‘Shapeshifter‘ mini-feature. Taking over bat symbols and only triggering if these symbols are on the reel set.

Landing a win with a Joker Wild on the middle reel will trigger the ‘Respins Of Evil‘. The Joker Wilds from the inital trigger become sticky and a multiplier is displayed above the reel set. This multier trail is 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 15x and 20x as the max. A respin will occur with these wilds remaining in place while other symbol positions respin. If a win occurs another respin is awarded and the multiplier is increased to the next level in the trail. Respins continue until no more wins occur or 25 consecutive respins occur. The Shapeshifter mini-feature can occur during these respins.

Conclusion

Overall, I think this game definitely represents the haunting Halloween theme quite well. The Dracula theme is a popular choice within the casino industry and Play’n Go has gone for a quirky but scary approach with their visual aspects. It’s hard not to be captivated by the animations, I do wish however the game background art work was different. Something to represent the Dracula theme, there are so many things you could create which would give the slot a better visual representation. When you load up a slot the first thing you see is the visuals, the game background art work did not capture my full attention. However, the symbol designs and the playful animations each possesses did capture me.

Feature wise the Shapeshifter Mini-feature occurred frequently while in the base game, keeping the excitement alive and the animations help this when Dracula takes over the adorable Bat Symbols. The Respins Of Evil feature seems simple but has a lot on offer. Thanks to that multiplier which can reach up to 20x and the possibility of 25 consecutive respins. Each time you trigger this feature you are glued to the screen, in hope symbols line up to keep the multiplier increasing up to the goldmine at 20x. The game plays very similar to one of my personal favourites by Play’n Go ‘Fire Joker‘, with the same reel setup and a similar playstyle. No wonder I enjoyed playing Count Jokula so much.
