Mahjong 88 Slot Review – Play’n Go
Play’n Go has been non-stop with slot releases this year, I recently reviewed ‘Crystal Sun‘ which literally rips off NetEnts release ‘Starburst’. But they have had great success with their recent release ‘Contact‘ and ‘Phoenix Reborn.’ Which are both very different slots and have had a positive impact on the casino community. They have announced their first 8×8 grid slot titled ‘Mahjong 88‘ with a current release date of ‘2nd May‘. Not too far ahead, so let’s find out more in our Mahjong 88 slot review.
This slot has a very saturated theme of Asian inspired idea. But the slot has great visuals and simple artwork. There is a very soothing piano soundtrack playing while you spin. This slot is very different from Play’n Go’s previous slot releases with the first ever 8×8 grid release by them. When spinning some green tiles will appear, these will turn around and show a random symbol.
This grid slot is unique, the 8×8 grid has no pay lines and instead wins are formed from clusters from 4 of the same symbols. The set RTP is 96.62% and Play’n Go rated this slot 8/10 based on volatility. You can bet stakes from £0.10-£100. This slot has a max win of 5000x which is very reasonable.
Mahjong 88 Slot Review Paytable & Symbols
This slot has ten paying symbols in total which includes, six low paying symbols. These symbols are represented red flowers, green flowers, blue flowers, and different coloured, shaped rectangle shapes. These symbols are on domino shaped backgrounds. There are also four premium symbols represented by pink flowers, yellow flowers, red flowers, and lilac flowers. The highest paying symbol is the lilac flower paying 500x for 12+ in a cluster. There is also a wild symbol but four different types which can appear on the grid.
Mahjong 88 Slot Review Features
This slot has four different seasons which are connected to different types of wilds. During spins the season you are in can change, which then changes the wild type which appears on the grid. The 4 wild types are;
- Spring Wilds – Added to the grid at random. (Up to 12 wilds can appear)
- Summer Wilds – Added to the grid while destroying adjacent symbols. (Up to 5 wilds can appear)
- Autumn Wilds – These wilds fall down the grid while destroying some symbols. (Up to 11 symbols can appear)
- Winter Symbols – Sticky wilds and not removed when part of winning clusters. (Up to 4 wilds can appear)
While spinning you can benefit from the ‘Fortune Frog‘, this is triggered when the charge meter is full. This meter is filled from winning combinations on the grid, it takes 33 symbols during one spin to adequately fill this meter. When filled this will trigger 1 of 4 different Fortune Frog features;
- Croak – 1 symbol set is paid as scatter.
- Spawn – 1 symbol set is transformed into another.
- Tounge – 2 edges chosen and symbols in between transform into another symbol.
- Hop -1 symbol is chosen and transforming and destroying adjacent symbols.
Another base game feature is called ‘Super Charge’, This is triggered when the meter is filled with 88+ symbols. This will multiply the entire spin wins by 5x.
The last feature is called ‘Season Bonus‘. A percentage of regular cluster wins will be added to a seasonal bonus win counter When the season changes the collectings will be paid out.
Conclusion
Overall, this slot is very unique and was fun to test out. It can be confusing to learn all of the features but after triggering them a couple of times it is easy to understand. I am personally happy Play’n Go are trying something very different and possibly out of their comfort zone as they have created a high slot. I am impressed and think the slot is excellent. Just wish it was easier to keep up with all the different features in the base game. Be sure to try this slot out for yourself 2nd May on all good casino sites.
