One of the leading hospitality companies in the United States, MGM Resorts, is still grappling with disrupted services in its hotel booking systems and casino slot machines, three days after publicly acknowledging a major cybersecurity breach. This incident has triggered a decline in the company’s stock value by over 6%, and the FBI is currently investigating the situation.
Valued at approximately $14 billion (£11.2 billion), MGM Resorts has a global footprint in the hotel and gaming industry, with a significant presence in Las Vegas. The repercussions of the cyberattack have been visibly evident; photos circulating on social media platforms depict inoperative slot machines in its casinos. Additionally, systems for restaurant reservations and hotel bookings remain inoperative.
Not only has this cyber intrusion disrupted front-end customer interactions, but it has also compromised back-end operations. Guests have faced issues with digital room keys, and the corporate email system has also been affected.
